    PROGRAM FOR JULY 20th

"VOTE AND DIE" Directed by MARK MITCHELL
"MISS BAGHDAD" Directed By FREDERIC DETJENS

"Vote and Die!" is a political 'mockumentary' comedy about an
eccentric millionaire who mounts a self-funded presidential campaign
to end the world. Set in a massively polarized near-future that the
country seems to slip closer to every day, it's a relentless satire of
current American politics, media, social views, and nearly everything
    else.

"MISS BAGHDAD" Directed By FREDERIC DETJENS

In Frederic Detjens' film 'Miss Baghdad', images from Iraq motivate a girl to protest against war. But Berlin's world of lifestyle, film sets and glossy advertising images polish over any meaningful effort. The disillusions start to make her physically sick. Her hopes return when she meets a renowned advertising guru who turns her into the star of a worldwide peace show. Yet again, all she gets is a hollow spectacle, designed to entertain and reassure. Together with another disappointed girl she decides to take radical measures.

    FANATIC: BY RUVAN WIJESOORIYA

RECENT WORKS AND FANART BY RUVAN WIJESOORIYA

    On view May 28 - June 30th 2011

CLOSING PARTY JUNE 27th 7-10pm please RSVP at ruvanthefanatic@gmail.com

Rouge 58 is proud to present the exhibition FANATIC: Recent Works and Fan Art by Ruvan Wijesooriya. Contrasting his past ephemeral exhibitions where photographs are taken away by an engaged and participating audience, “FANATIC” reflects on Ruvan’s work and progression as a photographic artist. The larger prints include a couple entangled in the nude, thus the creation of a familiar yet foreign creature. There are two contrasting nightlife pictures – one boasts the juvenile humor of a man pissing backwards, the other betrays the vulnerability of a nighttime moment in passing.  A pair of 40x60” prints, entitled “Horizon,” transform a most basic horizon line into an epic and painterly landscape.  Two 24x24” images used for album covers by LCD Soundsystem are next to an instantly iconic 40x60” portrait of Iggy Pop. Numerous 8x12” prints celebrate artists, personalities, musicians, bands and fashion models such as Vivienne Westwood, Mark Ronson, James Murphy, Anne V, Anouck Lepere, and Anna Wintour. The back area showcases collaborations with illustrators, Richard Haines, Jenny Mortsell and Lina Boden.

The show is made to be accessible for new art collectors; the 8x12” photographic C-Prints are sold with accompanying 55x34” “Gridprints” for $100/ea. They are made for the collector to assemble at home, much like furniture from Ikea. There are also dozens of framed 4x6” prints offered for $45/ea.
